People's pops

When my cute sister, Brooke, was here last weekend, she had a full list of things to do and places to try! On the list was People's Pops!
People's Pops says they take some of the best local fruit and make it into the frozen treat! We tried the apricot-orange(?) flavor and it was delightful! The real chunks of fruit make it feel like a healthy snack!
Good to know: People's Pops is inside Chelsea Market and on Highline Park!

Pinkberry's new Salted Carmel comes to the rescue during this heat wave!!

Whoa! Is it hot enough!? Sometimes, I wish I could just be like one of the kids and walk run through the spray parks because I'm sweltering!!

To beat the heat yesterday, I headed into Pinkberry while walking around the fabric district. I tried the new salted carmel for the first time and let's just say this takes fro yo to a whole new level! {Not to mention - I've never tried the milk chocolate crunch before.. so that probably added to the richeness!} I did half salted carmel and half watermelon. The fruity flavor balanced it just right because otherwise it might have been too heavy and rich for such a hot day! It was amazing! Pinkberry is giving me a new reason to come back more often! :)
Good to know: Ask to try the salted carmel before you place your order! And make sure they put the salt on! They use a little shaker and it makes all the difference!

Now, go try it!! And let me know what your favorite combination with toppings is!

Going out of state for dinner!?

Cute hubby thought this was maybe a little silly at first...  but once I told him we were going to take the Path to New Jersey to get Mexican food, he was game! It turned out to be an amazing night!
Charrito's
121 Washington St. (near 1st Street)
Hoboken, NJ

On Memorial day, we felt up for a little adventure - and with Mexican food in the plans - my hubby and a few friends were willing to come along on the trip to New Jersey!

Hoboken is only a stop or so away on the Path train (depending on where you're coming from) and it's much nicer! The Path works similar to the subway - it comes pretty frequently so you don't have to be too worried about looking up the schedule - except on the weekends or holidays.

Also, you can use your MTA subway pass to ride the Path train as long as its not a monthly unlimited pass.
Back to why we really took a train out of state (only about a 10 minute ride:) to get Mexican food... a friend of mine who's lived in the area for years told me Charrito's has the best Mexican food in the tri-state area so we had to give it a try! And it did not disappoint! Wow! While I love La Esquina and Rosa Mexicana in the city, Charrito's would get the best "comfort" Mexican food award! Reminded me of what I ate growing up in California!

The chicken fajitas were probably the winner of the night - in case you're wondering what our favorite was!

I loved the festive and colorful decorations! Brett and our friend, Dox, (who have both lived in Mexico) enjoyed the authentic music as well!
The place is pretty small so get there early or plan on waiting for a bit outside!
The sour cream was so pretty - I almost thought it was whip cream!
Check out how nice the Hoboken Path Station is! Complete with TV's and fans! Wow! Putting the subway to shame! (Now - if only the Path train went more places! :)
Conveniently located next door to Charrito's is Rita's Ice (at 121 Washington St.)!

Ice Custard Happiness = Rita's!
{That's the store's mission!}

We grabbed a gelati - which is custard at the bottom and top with fresh Italian ice in the middle! I tried the Splenda mango-peach flavor and it was awesome! (Even with a few less calories!)
Good to know: If you're a Cake Boss fan, Caro's Bake Shop is just a few blocks down the street! Better check before you go though to find out whether it will be open!

Then, we took our frozen treats out to the pier where we enjoyed a gorgeous view of the New York City skyline and the cool water breeze! (From Washington Street - just walk east about three blocks and then you'll end up here!)
There was a gorgeous lawn where people were relaxing and playing all sorts of games!
A view of our "neighborhood" - lower Manhattan! Check out the cranes - those are at the new World Trade Center site!
Midtown Manhattan...
Looking back at New Jersey!
Hubby and I near the water!
This is my gorgeous friend, Emily!
Here's Em with her cute husband, Dox!

Hoboken is quite the charming, cute town! A great escape for a few hours! If you're looking to get away or out of the city for just a little bit, Hoboken would be a great choice! There's something magical about looking back at the skyline - taking in a breath and thinking - Oh I love NYC!

FiDi is on the map! Red Mango on Fulton officially opens TODAY!!

Can you tell I'm just a little happy!? {Slightly embarrassing I have a diet coke in hand...lol} Our first apartment in the city was just a few blocks from here - and let's just say there wasn't anything half as cool in our neighborhood at the time. This is big news downtown!

Red Mango
111 Fulton Street

Here are some pics I snapped last night during their "soft" opening last night... I can't believe there's 10 flavors in one store!! The raspberry cheesecake and peach ones were awesome!
Between my friend and I - we sampled 5 different flavors! As you can see - our "regulars" were a pretty good size and they only cost between $5-$6 with topping included!
Now, you can load on the toppings to your liking!
I discovered yogurt chips for the first time last week and I thought that was amazing! Boba.. could be a new favorite too!

Good to know: Sounds like the hours might be extended soon! Yay! Keep checking! Also, be sure to ask for their Club Mango card and earn points with every purchase!

So you think you've tried every frozen yogurt in the city!?

Forty Carrots
7th floor of Bloomingdale's (59th Street and Lexington Avenue)

I heard a rumor the other day (haven't been able to confirm whether it's true or not) that Bloomingdale's originally started the frozen yogurt craze! Either way - the department store says the yogurt has been the best seller at Forty Carrots for 32 years!
I love the sign behind my hand in this pic.. yes, I had fun :) And this was a small! Whoa! They're much more generous than most yogurt places! It's creamier and smoother and tastes richer too!
Good to know: The yogurt is also served at the Bloomingdale's Soho location at 504 Broadway on the second floor! What could be better than sweet shopping and a frozen treat!? Plus, there's enough to see in Bloomingdale's that I think I usually walk off all of the calories before I leave the store :) Oh, and did I mention that the service is like Nordstrom! Makes for a perfect girls' afternoon outing!
