Thankful :)

After relocating {two blocks} back to our apartment this afternoon - I was curious to take a walk in Battery Park City. Luckily, there wasn't too much to see! We're grateful Irene spared the city from real disaster!

The twig below was the first piece of evidence we had a storm.. lol
Other than some twigs and leaves on the sidewalk and in the Hudson River - it looked like an ordinary day along the water with people walking..
and dogs too...

and biking..

The unusual sights were...

The most available taxis I've ever seen! Open cabs were everywhere yesterday and today!
News crews still hanging out in BPC.
It looks like the biggest clean-up effort in our neighborhood will be removing all of the sand bags.. best case scenario after a hurricane - I'd say!
Even the flowers in the community garden across the street looked chipper today!
Finally, more good news! "Nana's house" - as my nephew, Davis, refers to it {The Marriott Downtown} obviously survived Irene just fine as well!

Hope the rest of the east coast is able to recover quickly!!!

Back to {more} fun adventures tomorrow!

Didn't even have time to play with these...

We're packing up and heading home!

Excited to take a walk around the neighborhood in just a few minutes.

We'll see if there's anything to see soon!

Good morning!

So happy we woke up with power and nothing too interesting out the window!
We'll see if it lasts throughout the day.

Rainy and windy right now
{Trinity Church on Broadway}

Tornado watch until 11am! Hopefully, we won't see anything crazy!

distractions...

Since we're going to be stuck inside for at least 24 hours {and for now we still have power} - I've started thinking about fun fall plans and wanted to share the some of the sites I'm browsing with you...

{These are the normal types of things I like to blog about on City Treats and Treasures :)}

Looking to get weekend tickets to the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze
so Brett can come with me to see it this October!
{FYI: These are hot tickets that sell out!}

My favorite event in Queens is coming up!
Excited for a night there soon :)

We're just a few blocks from this today.
It opens next month.
Tickets are available now.

Rain and winds are picking up.
Hopefully, we'll get some sleep soon :)
Kind of hard though when I just want to stare outside the window.

Grateful this evening morning for all of the first responders who are working through the storm!
Praying for safety for all!

Outside our {friends'} window...

We have a great view of Trinity Church and the Freedom Tower, which is the building in the left hand side of the video below.

This is sped up 800%. I shot this clip around 7pm on Saturday night. Keep your eye on the Freedom Tower. You can see the crane at the top of it through the clouds about halfway through the video.

Thanks to Dox - we have a theme song!

...and the most delicious fajitas I've ever had! Wow!
I'm hoping he teaches Brett his trick to this amazing dish this weekend!

drum roll please.......

Dox nominated REO Speedwagon's "Ridin' the Storm Out" and we all agreed it was perfect! Downloading now (before we lose internet)!

Oh - and here's what it looks like outside... rainy and a little windy! Looks like Irene is creeping closer!
The tower lit up on the left side is the new Freedom Tower!

(Hoping she spares us from the worst!!!)

Stay safe everyone!

In case you're wondering what it's like in Rhode Island right now...

I love the New Jersey comment in my friend's {Jenna Kim Jones} new clip on YouTube!

She works for the Daily Show in the city and does stand up comedy shows as well! Way to go Jenna!

We're spoiled

Someone posted on Facebook, "What does it mean to hunker down?!"

For us at the moment, it means...

Obviously, we're faring quiet well right now :)

What our neighborhood looks like today

After finishing our preparations, we took a walk with the Doxford's around our neighborhood this afternoon.

Here's a look at the Financial District and Battery Park City today:
Lots of open cabs everywhere! Who knew it would be so easy to grab a ride on the day of evacuations!

Word is the 'x' tape is a wives tale.. We will see!
The quietest I've ever seen Broadway.
Sandbags and tarps covering grates over the subway line.
We 'departed' our home this morning and were so lucky to be welcomed in by the Doxford's!

Almost wishing I was reporting on the storm as we walked through Battery Park :)
Interesting sights everywhere...
Our gorgeous friends - Bryan and Emily!

 Closed parks...
We liked the name of this boat!

This guy was soaked as he skateboarded with groceries in hand to one of the yachts.

These cranes and construction materials make me a little nervous!

A hot commodity these days...
How cute {and generously kind} are the Doxford's! I love that when I entered their home - this was the quote on their chalkboard in the kitchen. We are so lucky to have such wonderfully sweet friends in the city!
