Seis de Mayo - adventure idea for a Saturday

Still wishing it was Cinco de Mayo?! Well, here's a place you can get an authentic, {semi} quick fix!
La Cabana Restaurant
2277 First Avenue (between 117th and 118th Street)
(212) 860-5555 ‎

About two weeks ago we sold our car. Just before we took it to its new owner, we hit up La Cabana in Spanish Harlem. Several friends recommended it for its authentic dishes, and it did not disappoint. If you like TexMex or Americanized Mexican - this is not for you. But if you don't mind plastic table cloths {think: picnic style} and hilarious Spanish TV blaring in the background {I have no idea what they're saying, but its all so dramatic so it cracks me up:)}, then you'll really enjoy a flavorful lunch or dinner here.
Brett said the cheese sauce on the burrito reminded him of what they served when he lived in Mexico.
Oh man, I've got to work on getting my Diet Cokes out of almost every post :) lol... The guacamole and salsa were both really, really good and super fresh!

If you haven't stuffed yourself silly, Target/Costco/Old Navy/Best Buy are just about two blocks away at 517 East 117th Street. Since you're already up in the neighborhood, you might as well take advantage! :) Who doesn't love a Target run?!

Just about a year ago, they opened this new massive building with Costco on the bottom, Target on top of that, and then it keeps going higher with a few other stores! The Costco and Target are always well stocked! It's definitely my favorite Costco and Target for the area in terms of service and smaller crowds as well.

Wondering how you'll get a six-month supply of paper towels, chicken and frozen veggies home?! Black cars are waiting inside the parking lot. I think it's about $25 to get home. If you're already up in the neighborhood (via subway), it's a pretty cheap way to get all of your groceries home! Also, if you did rent a Zipcar to get up there, parking is only about $5 for the first two hours and then around $10 for up to 3 hours. Best parking deal in the city!

Good to know: It's not the best neighborhood. I wouldn't go there after dark. Even when it's light, it's best to go with a friend or two - preferably at least one guy. Always better to be cautious!

Also, especially if you're planning to get a bunch of stuff at Costco, you may want to bring some bags (those 99 cent) ones with you to help you get everything out of the store!

Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the weather!
